World’s First Organic Bamboo Charcoal Now On Sale at Wegman’s Grocery Stores
New home grilling fuel is safer, better tasting and environmentally friendly
Tulsa, OK – June, 2015 – Home grilling enthusiasts have a healthier alternative fuel for their backyard barbecues as Jamaican Jeem’s Organic Bamboo Charcoal has now arrived on Wegman’s Market store shelves. Jamaican Jeem’s Organic Bamboo Charcoal is the world’s first USDA-certified organic home grilling charcoal, and is being introduced to the U.S. market exclusively by Wegman’s at its 85 stores throughout the New England and Mid-Atlantic U.S markets.
Jamaican Jeem’s Products President and CEO James Long, said Organic Bamboo Charcoal is a “safer, cleaner and more sustainable home-grilling fuel for consumers. The charcoal contains no preservatives, pesticides or other petroleum or chemical based additives, making it a far healthier choice for home grilling. Food cooked with bamboo charcoal also tastes better as a result of the cleaner-burning fuel source.”
Bamboo charcoal will also light faster, burn longer and hotter than many traditional home grilling fuels, and, after use, can be recycled into home gardens as a compost.
Jamaican Jeem’s Organic Bamboo Charcoal is also the world’s first USDA-Certified Organic Bamboo Charcoal, ensuring it is produced with the highest organic standards possible. It is sourced from the island of Jamaica’s only USDA-certified Organic farm in Jamaica, Superfarm, located in Pembroke Hall, St. Mary’s near Ocho Rios.
Long said that in addition to the product’s health and taste benefits, bamboo is one of the world’s most renewable resources and its use can help reduce global deforestation: “Bamboo is a global solution for climate change. Using bamboo products significantly reduces the demand for hardwoods, which are our most important global resource for reducing carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Global deforestation is one of the key drivers of climate change and replacing hardwood use with bamboo, which regrows in as little as few months, is a simple ‘fix’ we can and should be using right now.”
Jamaican Jeem’s Organic Bamboo Charcoal is available for $9.99 retail at Wegman’s Markets – Find your nearest store here: www.wegmans.com.

Your food will taste better and be healthier since our bamboo charcoal contains no additives or by-products that that may affect the food or taste.”
Long also noted that after cooking, the cooled fibers can be recycled to provide nutrients for your garden or compost.
Minister of State Sharon Ffolkes-Abrahams, noted that the Jamaican Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce strongly supports the island’s growing certified organic farming movement, which will “facilitate the international acceptance of Jamaican products, while showcasing products that are authentically Jamaican and organically grown. This eco-friendly product is produced with the environment in mind. Jamaica utilizes strict methods of harvesting and processing through the use of standards acquired by the Bamboo and Indigenous Materials Advisory Committee (BIMAC) of the Jamaican Government.
A member of the grass family, bamboo is an abundant, renewable resource containing no toxins, chemicals, or pollutants. The fuel burns clean and does not produce any harmful or distasteful odors or by-products. No trees or fossil fuels are used in the production of Jamaican Jeem’s Organic Bamboo Charcoal, and the Jamaican bamboo growth cycle reproduces within a few months of harvesting, creating a virtually inexhaustible supply. Jamaica Jeem’s Organic Bamboo Charcoal is produced at Nelson’s Super Farm Jamaica, Pembroke Hall, St. Mary’s, the island’s first and only USDA-Certified Organic agricultural facility.
“We are focused on the organic and environmentally conscious consumer,” Long said, “and hope to have Jamaican Jeem’s Organic Bamboo Charcoal in organic and natural food stores as well as specialty gourmet shops.” Retail sales are expected to begin later this Spring, with outlets announced in coming weeks.
